42) Angel?

Painting. Angel?. 2009
Acrylic on canvas.

This painting goes against the whole idea that we all have of being an angel. I portrayed this angel as a naked woman who seems to be touching herself and i created a rather dark background to show that she is in a way committing a sin. I made this with the purpose of creating public reaction, whether it is good or bad, it still catches their attention.
I don't remember what the assignment for this painting was about, but i can talk about the painting itself.

I had a lot of problems with this painting because after i was done stretching my canvas (which i used to do all the time for all my paintings because it was a lot cheaper that way) i didn't have time to prime it so it was harder to paint on and i spent more paint than i should have, so it wasn't as successful as i wished.

41) Lucian Freud

Painting. Lucian Freud. 2009
Acrylic on board.

Lucian Freud has a special technique of painting, he used very heavy brush strokes and a great combination of colors to portray the human body.

We were supposed to copy Lucian Freud's piece to learn his technique and get used to working with several colors when we paint the human body (we had a lot of models coming in for us to pain, so the teacher wanted us to see the colors in a different way, sometimes even exaggerating a little bit). The first one is the original painting of Lucian Freud, and the second one is my attempt to copy his painting.

I don't remember the name of his painting and i can't find it on the web either to show you, but either way this painting was supposed to be a copy of his work. I never finished the piece because there was a lot more i could have done, but maybe one day i will.

40) Model 2

Painting II. Model. 2009
Acrylic on canvas.

In my intermediate panting class we got to paint a lot more models than before, and this on in particular is one of my favorite because of the colors contrast i used. It reminds me a lot of the old paintings of naked woman such as "Venus of Urbino" by Tiziano. (1538).

32) Model

Drawing class. Watercolor. 2009
Watercolor on paper.

In our drawing class we learnt how to use all kinds of pencil, pastel, ink, as well as watercolors. And even though watercolor and pastel are not my favorite for drawing, i found it amazing how amazing drawings watercolors can create and in a very short time. Some people say that watercolor is painting, but i remember our teacher always saying that using watercolor was a way of drawing, and i believe that too.
Different models would come to our class once in a while so we could draw them. And these are some examples.

31) Me (Ink)

During my second semester in UBC i took several courses, and as i mentioned before, apart from my painting course i was also taking drawing and digital arts, at the same time. In my painting class i learnt so much about different materials and techniques of painting that have honestly helped me so much with my later projects, and even though i can say that i enjoyed the painting class a bit more, i did so many thing in drawing that were new to me, for instance how to use ink and how to create 5 minutes nice drawings with watercolors, ink and pencil.

Drawing Class. Ink. 2009
Black and brown ink on paper.

Out of the many self portraits i had to do in my time in UBC, this is probably one of my favorite ones. We were learning how to use ink with pen and brush to be able to create from nice simple drawings to complicated and well blended compositions. I drew this portrait out of a photograph i took long time ago, and i decided to use the ink combining both the brush and the pen (pen for the sharper areas suck as edges and my hair, and the brush for smoother areas such as shadows.)
I worked a lot with black and brown ink, but i made this piece using only black.

I made several ink drawings, but i specially liked my self-portrait and this drawing of my hands and feet. I made this drawing with brown and black ink.

1) 2005 - the beginning

My first real piece. 2005.
Charcoal on wrapping paper.
Davy College High School. Cajamarca - Peru.

It was my first half a year of IB in Peru before leaving to Ghana in July of that same year, and i had decided to take Art as one of my HL courses only because i thought it would'nt be as hard. (I had no idea i could ever have any talent when that happened, the truth is, i only did it because i thought it would be easy. lol) So that's how it started.

The assignment was to draw a picture of someone from a magazine using charcoal. I forgot the actual size of this one but it was pretty big, more than a meter of height)
I didn't draw the face because i didn't know how to and i was afraid i would screw it up. That's the truth.

Sort of successful. I found out years later when i saw it again that the proportions of the arms and feet aren't really correct like i initially thought. But i think i did a pretty good job for a beginner.
